Knowledge is Power, as the saying goes. North Star Bonsai is a strong advocate of this, and we put our money where our mouth is. Each year we provide grants, scholarships and other financial assistance to individuals who demonstrate growth with in the art of bonsai with a desire to expand and share their knowledge.

We also sponsor other venues that provide a solid educational base for enthusiasts such as workshops, classes and internet sites that have a nurturing, credible, and "leg up" environment.

Educational Announcements:

Starting August 1, 2009 we start a new relationship with Bonsai Vault by providing sponsorship. Our plans are to provide financial assistance for upcoming events and upgrades to help expand its communities education while providing a fun and relaxed environment which we believe is a great combination for learning.

The Behr Scholarship Fund has been established by Bonsai Vault. The late Behr Appleby could be described as the consummate bonsai enthusiast. He demonstrated skill, artistic appreciation and was always willing to share his knowledge of bonsai. We feel that these are all worthy traits and reflect our belief and philosophy. So to that we have pledged 300 dollars. We encourage you to join us in the memory of this man.

Workshops

North Star offers workshops through out the year. We bring in bonsai artists from around the world to impart there wisdom and show you how to create a better bonsai. We also offer workshops for other subjects that influence your art. Like photography workshops and horticultural workshops.

Classes

Classes, unlike workshops, have a more formal feel to them. A designed curriculum is followed over a prolonged period of time. You study with the same instructor and work on the same trees during this period. This we feel is a better approach than haphazardly working on your trees in a club were misinformation and low standards prevail. Below is some of what you can expect from a North Star Bonsai School class:

One on One Instruction
Some people desire one on one instruction because they enjoy a more intimate approach to learning bonsai. We are pleased to provide this service to accelerate your learning curve.
